David L. Parker  Ph.D.

Dr. Parker is a principal and the Executive Director of The Institute as well as a partner of Washington Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation.  He received his undergraduate degree at San Diego State University and his Ph.D. at the University of New Mexico.  He has directed programs ranging from Cardiac Rehabilitation to the training of Olympic athletes.  His scientific research and expertise have been in the areas of heart disease, altitude and heat physiology, physiological and biochemical adaptation to exercise and diet, aging, stress testing, body composition, nutrition, and athletic performance. From 1977 to 1996, he was the Boeing Chief Physiologist.

As a physiologist, his broad spectrum of experience allows him to integrate scientific and medical research into adult fitness and health management programs, as well as athletic training and performance which are effective for most anyone at any age or ability level.  Currently, he is heavily involved in a program that he designed for comprehensive Fire Fighter Wellness Exams, a major offering to Regional Fire Distrcts and Departments. He works closely with the Washington State  Patrol Fire Training Academy in the Health and Functional  Fitness Evaluations of Academy Fire Fighter Recruits. He has extensively published and widely lectured.

 

James Dowd,  ATC, CSCS

James is the Supervisor of Athletic Programs and Acceleration. He graduated from California Lutheran University with a BS in Sports Medicine and Athletic Training. James lettered Varsity on the Men's Soccer Team. He has a long relationaship  with The Institute, first as an athlete at Issaquah High School, then completing an internship while in college, and finally returning to his current position.

During the 2003 Professional Baseball Season, James was employed in the Boston Red Organization, working as an Athletic Trainer and Strength and Conditioning Coach for their Minor League Affiliate in Sarasota, Florida. 

James lives in Seattle, and enjoys playing soccer, running and other activities to stay in shape.

Chris Greene, B.S.

Chris is on staff in the Athletic Programs Dept, as a Trainer and Coordinator of The Acceleration Program. He graduated from Central Washington University with a B.S. in Exercise Science. He has additional coursework in Chemistry, Biology and Family & Consumer Science. He has volunteered at Long Term Care Facilities to continue his work experience in the health care field. While at Central, he was an intern at The Institute and now is part of The Institute Staff.

Chris enjoys bodybuilding, power lifting and spending time with family and friends.

 

Laurie Schneider B.A.

Laurie is the Administrator of Health Management Programs and fire Fighter Programs. She is also involved in the Adult Fitness Programs at The Institute. Laurie graduated from Western Washington University in 1997, in Psychology, and Sociology, with an emphasis in Physiological and Sports Psych. She has a minor in Communications. At Western she was on Varsity Cheer 2 years. She had additional course work in the sciences, statistics, principles of athletic training, Track and Field, as well as, Strength and Conditioning. As a high school athlete, she ran track, was on the gymnastics team and Cheer Squad, and was a co-Captain of the Drill Team.

At The Institute 1996-2000, she trained athletes, completed Acceleration training by National Frappier Acceleration Office and participated at their National Conferences. She also set up and managed Physical Therapy Administration.

In almost 4 years with Alaska Airlines as a Flight Attendant, her Flight Crew duties ranged from advanced emergency medical support and emergency aircraft procedures to customer support. Laurie travels extensively, especially enjoying trips from Mexico to Alaska. Laurie lives with her husband Mark in Kirkland.

 

Michele Straume  B.S

Michele is a Coordinator and Trainer in  Acceleration and also is a coordinator in the Adult Fitness Programs. She graduated from Redmond High School where she excelled in both academics adn athletics. Michele graduated from Washington State University with a B.S. in Exercise Science. Previously, she worked at Washington State University's swim gym program, incorporating physical activity and improving functional ability for children with disabilities. She was a previous intern at The Institute and now is part of the The Institute Team. Her future plans include getting her Master's Degree in Physical Therapy.

Michele enjoys reading, soccer and recreational sports in her spare time.

 

 

Anne Taylor,  ATC, CSCS

Anne's position with The Institute is as an Exercise Specialist, and as the Head Athletic Trainer for the Seattle Sounders pro soccer team. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from The Honors College at Washington State University with a degree in Athletic Medicine, and a minor in Strength Training and Health and Wellness. During her time at WSU, she worked as a Strength Coach and Athletic Trainer with Pac 10 Division One  athletes.

During the 2003 Professional Baseball Season, she worked as a Strength Coach and Athletic Trainer in the Oakland Athletics Organization  with their Vancouver British Columbia Minor League Affiliate. Anne has also worked with NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL, and Olympic Athletes. She has published in Professional Trade Journals. She particpates on the curriculum board for online courses of the National Academy of Sciences, National Strength and Conditionaing Assoc., and the American Council on Exercise.

 

Dana Anlauf B.S

Dana is the Administrator of the Adult Fitness Programs, and helps support Health Management Programs and Fire Fighter Evaluations.  She is a graduate of the University of Idaho, with a Degree in Sports Science. She has previously worked with athletes in coordination with the YMCA, working as both a referee and a coach for youth basketball. While in high school, she participated in soccer, basketball, and track, and also worked as a student athletic trainer,

Dana has previous experience at The Institute, serving as an intern the summer of 2003, working and participating in the Acceleration Program.
