Washington Institute of Sports Medicine Staff:
David L. Parker Ph.D.
Dr. Parker is a principal and the Executive Director of The Institute as well as a partner of Washington Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation. He received his undergraduate degree at San Diego State University and his Ph.D. at the University of New Mexico. He has directed programs ranging from Cardiac Rehabilitation to the training of Olympic athletes. His scientific research and expertise have been in the areas of heart disease, altitude and heat physiology, physiological and biochemical adaptation to exercise and diet, aging, stress testing, body composition, nutrition, and athletic performance. From 1977 to 1996, he was the Boeing Chief Physiologist.
As a physiologist, his broad spectrum of experience allows him to integrate scientific and medical research into adult fitness and health management programs, as well as athletic training and performance which are effective for most anyone at any age or ability level. Currently, he is heavily involved in a program that he designed for comprehensive Fire Fighter Wellness Exams, a major offering to Regional Fire Districts and Departments. He works closely with the Washington State Patrol Fire Training Academy in the Health and Functional Fitness Evaluations of Academy Fire Fighter Recruits. He has extensively published and widely lectured.
Ben Adelman, BS,CSCS
Administrator of Athletic Acceleration Programs
Ben joined the WISM staff in April of 2006 and has completed Acceleration training by National Frappier Acceleration. Prior to this, Ben interned in the Acceleration Department during the summer of 2005. Ben received his Bachelor of Science degree from Western Washington University in 2006, with an emphasis in Fitness and Health Promotion. In August of 2006, Ben became certified as a Strength and Condition Specialist through the National Strength and Condition Association. He grew up in Kirkland where he attended Juanita High School, participating in football and baseball.
Lisa Poffenroth, BS,CSCS
Administrator of Health and Acceleration Programs
Lisa joined the WISM staff in July of 2006 and has completed Acceleration training by National Frappier Acceleration. She is also involved with the Fire Fighter Programs. Lisa graduated from Gonzaga University, in the Spring of 2006, where she has received her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science. She has a minor in Psychology. She grew up in Duvall and attended King's High School, participating on Varsity cross-country and track.
