Acceleration & Performance Programs


The WASHINGTON INSTITUTE OF SPORTS MEDICINE offers the Athletic Republic Acceleration Program and state of the art Performance Programs to athletes of all ages and skill level.

From the young developing athlete who needs direction, to the highly skilled athlete at the top of his/her game these programs incorporate leading edge sports science coupled with today's technology. The Acceleration program is and directed by exercise physiologists, athletic trainers, and physical therapists.

This unique program is not available anywhere else in the greater Northwest. Schools and universities don't have it, professional sports teams are just beginning to understand its potential, and the Olympic Training Centers are using only portions of it.

Endurance Training

Endurance training is part of every program. Stamina is the foundation upon which all programs are based. Fatigue can be evident even in short bouts of extreme exertion because aerobic and anaerobic metabolic physiologic pathways are inadequate for the required. Cardiovascular exercise prescription is a key element of the Acceleration program to assist in maximizing each athlete's potential. Equipment that maximizes oxygen uptake training is available and includes the following:

  • Treadmills
  • Bicycle Ergometers
  • Cross-training machines
  • Stairsteppers
  • Rowers




Super Treadmill Speed Training

The key to success is maximized with the guided use of the programs cutting edge equipment, most of which is only available at The Washington Institute of Sports Medicine.

The foundation of the Acceleration program is the Super Treadmill which has a top speed of 28 mph, 40 percent incline and a 8 percent decline. Scientifically developed training protocols maximize results through 5 comprehensive program levels.












Sprint Cord Power Training

The patented sprint cord is designed to safely load specific muscles associated with the biomechanics of running, jumping and throwing.  Sprint cord training is the key in providing power in sport and position specific muscle groups.











Cybex Reactor Training

The reactor is a state of the art computerized machine that tests an athlete's quickness, foot agility and reaction time and ability. The athlete challenges the computer screen by quickly moving to individually sensored pods placed in different rows and columns around the athlete. The athlete can make choices, ranging from, sport-specific programs to the popular olympic challenge programs.

The Cybex Reactor is also utilized for sophisticated movement analysis. It can determine directional leg movement deficiencies moving forward / backward, side /side, and diagonal movements. These deficiencies can then be addressed in plyo platform training protocols with each athlete.

The Institute offers sophisticated Acceleration and Performance Programs specialized for the Pro Athlete.
